Daily Habits for a Healthy Home: The Aironix Guide to Fresh Air

We put a lot of effort into keeping our homes clean, but we often forget about the most important of all…the air we breathe. A healthy home needs a constant flow of fresh air to flush out moisture, mould spores, and VOCs.

At Aironix, we believe your home should breathe as well as you do. Here are the daily habits we recommend to keep your indoor air as fresh as the outdoors.

1. Let Your Vents Breathe

It’s common to shut vents when the weather turns cold to keep the heat in, but sealing your home up will encourage moisture buildup.

  • The Habit: Keep window trickle vents and wall vents open and unblocked. A small amount of airflow will help keep your home protected from moisture buildup.

2. If the Stove is On, the Hood is On

Cooking is one of the biggest sources of indoor moisture.

  • The Habit: If you’re using the hob, make sure the extractor hood stays on.

3. Deep clean vents

When dust builds up, your ventilation stops working.

  • The Habit: Give your wall vents and extractor fans a quick clean every six months. If you’re running a whole-house system, check your filters once or twice a year.

4. Dry Laundry the smart way

Drying clothes indoors can create litres of water in your air, leading to window condensation and black mould.

  • The Habit: Dry laundry outside whenever possible. If you’re stuck drying indoors, keep the clothes in a wet room (like a bathroom) with the door shut and the extractor fan running to pull the moisture away.

5. Monitor Your Environment

You can’t manage what you can’t see.

  • The Habit: Consider using an indoor air quality monitor, as it will give you real-time insight into how your air quality is affected by different activities, giving you a clear signal of when it’s time to ventilate
